Yes, you can wear shorts when on safari in Kruger National Park. However, if you are doing Horseback safaris and quad bike safaris long pants may be required. For walking safaris long pants may be preferred in order to avoid scratches from grasses and thorns. Remember to always check the weather forecast and your safari travel itinerary before packing!

Please pack all your medication from home. You will find pharmacies in town around Kruger National Park, but only the very basics are available from the park shops. Consult your home pharmacy or order a standard medical travel kit, including the basics like tablets for headache, nausea relief and diarrhoea. Consider whether to take Malaria prophylaxis. Some luxury lodges in the Greater Kruger National Park even have spas, steam rooms and even saunas. While travelling to Kruger, you may also stay in accommodation with a swimming pool.

Is Kruger National Park Malaria-Free?
No, Kruger National Park is not Malaria free, but relatively low risk. SANParks recommends travellers take prophylaxis when visiting the park. When we were living overseas and visiting Kruger, we used to take Malaria tablets if staying in the park for a long time. Now that we live in White River and visit Kruger Park much more often, we don't! In reality, we estimate most South African travellers don't take prophylaxis. Dressing for a safari in the Greater Kruger Park depends as much on what your itinerary looks like as it does on the time of year and location you choose. Light and neutral tones, buildable layers and a windproof and waterproof jacket are always recommended. Due to the closure of Phabeni Gate today, Skukuza can only be accessed from Paul Kruger Gate, Numbi Gate and Malelane Gate. Crocodile Bridge Gate remains closed, no access from Skukuza to Lower Sabie.

Day visits with quotas have re-opened in Southern Kruger gates of Malelane Gate, Numbi Gate and Paul Kruger Gate. All private guided safaris vehicles (OSVs) form part of the quota Vehicles (OSVs) will form part of these gate quotas.
