Potluck Boskombuis - a now closed Panorama Route Gem

Potluck Boskombuis (Potluck Bush Kitchen in Afrikaans) closed in March 2020. It was a beloved bush restaurant on the R532 road of the Panorama Route and THE place to enjoy real South African dishes made on a traditional wooden stove. 

The rare kind of place offering delicious meals despite the absence of electricity and fridge. The kind of place where, when the food is finished, it is finished. The toilet with a view was also a visitor favorite. 

The location on Erasmushoop Farm offered offered one of the best sights on the Panorama Route with the beautiful, rocky Treur River, flowing and was the perfect stop between Graskop and Bourkes Luck Potholes. You can have glimpses of this landscape when driving between Bourke’s Luck Potholes and Berlin Falls.

Alternative places to eat

The Chubby Pig 

If you are looking for a rustic but authentic meal nearby, The Chubby Pig Eatery is a good alternative. On the banks of the Blyde River it has a peaceful atmosphere and hearty meals. This is also the closest restaurant to the old Potluck Boskombuis location. You can also order to-go and enjoy your meal at Bourke’s Luck Potholes.

The potholes have very basic fast food options only in the parking area. Not the best experience.

Blyde Canyon, A Forever Resort

If you are heading north, in the direction of Hoedspruit, The Oaks or looping back to Lydenburg, the Kadisi Restaurant at Blyde Canyon, A Forever Resort is open to the public. This is a good place to stop and check out their viewpoint into the canyon and their walks and hikes. Please take note of their opening hours, with three distinct service hours for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Other than the options above, you’ll need to head to Hoedspruit, Graskop or Pilgrim’s Rest for the next dining options. Before reaching Hoedspruit, The Blue Mountain Restaurant, is a lovely restaurant too.
