In a welcome development for residents & tourists, the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) has announced a significant upgrade of roads across the Kruger Lowveld region. These interventions aim to improve safety, connectivity, and overall travel experiences across Mpumalanga’s popular tourism corridor.
SANRAL has officially taken over several key access routes from the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport. The roads now under SANRAL’s custodianship include:
R540 fromDullstroom to Lydenburg/Mashishing
R538 from White River to Hazyview
R538 to R40 intersection near Hazyview
R533 between Graskop and Bushbuckridge
Roads around Crossing Shopping Centre in Mbombela
R571 from Komatipoort to the Marloth Park intersection
R40 from White River to Mbombela
Plaston Road to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA), including the Karino section leading
Barberton Makhonjwa Geotrail, from the eSwatini Bulembu Border to Barberton
Low’s Creek to Kaapmuiden
These routes are vital for local mobility and tourism, linking iconic attractions such as the Panorama Route, Kruger National Park, and towns like White River, Hazyview, and Barberton.
