Mpumalanga Parks Week 2025 – Free Entry to Selected Nature Reserves

The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) annual Parks Week, will take place from 8 to 12 September 2025. During this week, selected nature reserves across Mpumalanga will be open free of charge to the public, creating an incredible opportunity for locals to connect with nature.
This annual initiative forms part of Tourism Month, celebrated every September, to encourage residents to explore their own province, discover hidden gems, and enjoy the beauty of Mpumalanga’s natural heritage.
Free Access to Mpumalanga’s Nature Reserves
A total of 10 nature reserves are included in the Mpumalanga Parks Week 2025 programme. Day visitors will have free access (overnight stays will still be charged at normal rates). School groups will also benefit from free entry on selected days.

Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve: 10 September 2025 for the public and 11 September 2025 for school groups:
Manyeleti Nature Reserve: 8 to 12 September 2025
Ohrigstad Dam Nature Reserve: 8 to 12 September 2025
Songimvelo Nature Reserve (Kromdraai Camp only): 8 to 12 September 2025
Nooitgedacht Nature Reserve: 8 to 12 September 2025
Loskop Dam Nature Reserve: 8 to 12 September 2025
Mkhombo Nature Reserve: 8 to12 September 2025
Mahushe Shongwe Nature Reserve: 8 to 11 September 2025
SS Skosana Nature Reserve: 8, 10 and 11 September 2025
Adventure Activities at Songimvelo
In addition to free entry, the MTPA has partnered with Extreme Adventures to offer exciting outdoor activities at Kromdraai Camp in Songimvelo Nature Reserve. These activities will be available at a minimal fee, and visitors are encouraged to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Free access applies only to day visitors.
South African citizens must present a valid ID or driver’s license at the entrance gates.
Normal accommodation rates apply for overnight stays.

Why Visit During Mpumalanga Parks Week?
This initiative gives residents and visitors a chance to experience Mpumalanga’s rich natural diversity — from the breathtaking Blyde River Canyon, to the tranquil waters of Loskop Dam, to the abundant wildlife of Manyeleti Game Reserve.
The programme also encourages communities to support local tourism products in nearby towns and rural areas, boosting economic opportunities around the reserves.
