Since April 2025 the beloved Mafunyane Water Park in Nelspruit has closed its doors due to rising water, electricity and rental costs.

Named after a legendary Kruger Park Tusker (old male elephant with notable tusks), the park had many slides such as Laughing Hyena, Zooming Zebras or Happy Hippo. Mafunyane Park was conveniently located in Nelspruit’s Riverside Mall, next to the R40.

Unfortunately, the area does not have a water park of the same calibre. Smaller water parks such as Tsakani Water Park in Msholozi and eMfuleni Park in Kanyamazane are more picnic areas with pools than thrilling slides and rides.
