God’s Window – One of the Most Famous Stops on the Panorama Route
God’s Window is one of the most well-known viewpoints in Mpumalanga and a highlight of the Panorama Route. Situated along the edge of the Drakensberg escarpment, this dramatic lookout offers sweeping views over the Lowveld and, on clear days, all the way towards the Kruger National Park plains below.

Rising more than 700 metres above the Lowveld, God’s Window forms part of the escarpment where mist, forest and cliffs meet — creating a completely different landscape to what visitors experience below in White River.
What to Expect at God’s Window
God's window is named after a specific viewpoint with a spectacular view nearly parallel to the Drakensberg escarpment, with a lovely kloof in the foreground.
Many people assume the most spectacular view point is from the top of the trail in to the indigenous forest. But God's Window view point is the second one on the right from the car park. Don't miss it! Follow this sign to reach it.

God's Window indigenous forest trail
A short, well-maintained walking trail leads from the parking area to the indigenous forest and additional viewpoints at the top. The walk is manageable for most visitors, though there are steps and uneven sections along the way.

Along the trail you'll find many indigenous plants, trees, ferns and birdlife. Some plants to lookout for are the endemic Streptocarpus fenetsra-dei, which was named after this location, or Aloe nubigena which grows in the cliff face and can be seen from the viewpoints with binoculars when in flower.
At the top, you’ll find expansive views over forests, rivers and valleys as far as the eye can see. Cool mountain air, especially welcome in summer.

Weather plays a big role in the experience — on clear days the view is spectacular, while misty conditions can create a dramatic but limited outlook.
A Key Stop on the Panorama Route
God’s Window is ideally positioned between Graskop and Bourke’s Luck Potholes, making it a natural stop when exploring the Panorama Route. Many visitors combine it with nearby attractions such as:

Opening hours and best time to visit
Like many attractions on the panorama route, opening hours are from 7 am until 5 pm. The security guard stays on site in the evenings and usually allows you to exit after the official closing time.
