Why is it called the White River?

The White River (Witrivier) earned its name from its seasonal milky appearance due to Kaolin deposits formed by the chemical weathering of granite rocks.

In Swazi the White River is similarly known as Mhloppemanzi (which means white waters) and in Afrikaans, it is referred to as Witrivier.

Flowing through Mpumalanga's fertile Lowveld past White River town, it irrigates avocado, litchi and macadamia farms.
