What formations can be seen inside Sudwala Caves?
Sudwala Caves showcase spectacular speleothems including towering stalactites, intricate stalagmites, and mesmerizing flowstone structures sculpted over millions of years. Iconic highlights include the 150-million-year-old Lowveld Rocket, a 14m tall stalactite-stalagmite fusion still growing at 2.5cm per century; Samson's Pillar, the world's oldest stalagmite at 185-200 million years; and the dramatic 180-million-year-old Screaming Monster resembling a jagged creature. Other wonders feature the Three Praying Nuns, Magnum Ice-Cream with its manganese hue, young stalactite "The Baby" at 300 years, and Devil's Chimney marking the cave's watery origin. Microbial collenia fossils from 2 billion years ago add prehistoric depth to this Mpumalanga subterranean gallery.
