Blyde Forest Nature Reserve

Mpumalanga

Blyde Forest Nature Reserve is situated along the Drakensberg escarpment in Mpumalanga and protects indigenous Afromontane forest and escarpment grassland habitats. The reserve forms part of the broader Blyde River catchment and plays an important role in water regulation and biodiversity conservation. It is characterised by steep slopes, forested ravines and high rainfall, supporting diverse plant species and forest birdlife. The reserve is managed primarily for conservation and catchment protection rather than tourism, with limited visitor infrastructure.
